Minister Nyesom Wike to Abuja Residents: I’m Not Here for a Beauty Parade, Judge Me by My Report Card

Wike to Abuja Residents: I’m Not Here for a Beauty Parade

Minister Nyesom Wike, of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has once again assured residents of Abuja that he is committed to delivering tangible results, emphasizing that his role is not one of showmanship but of serious work.

Speaking during the flag-off of the construction of Access Roads ILS 02 and ILS 03, also known as Timipre Sylva Street, in Mabushi District, Wike declared that he is fully prepared to present his performance scorecard to the people at any time.

The former Rivers State governor, known for his blunt and fearless style, said leadership is about accountability and service, not popularity or aesthetics.

“Everybody should be committed because I have said that, whether you are a civil servant or National Assembly member, a time will come when they will say Operation show your report card. You can’t run away from it,” he said.

“For us in the FCT, let the residents call us and say, ‘Come and show us your report card. Tell us what you have done.’ We are prepared any day, any time to face the people of Abuja and say, ‘Look, this is what we have achieved.’

“It’s not about liking our faces; you don’t need to pick our faces. We didn’t come here for a beauty contest.

We came here to work. And work, we shall do. Everything has its time, and when the time comes to give an account, we are ready, in the morning, afternoon, or night.”

Wike further emphasized that excuses have no place in governance, particularly under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, who he said is determined to deliver on his promises.

“My sister, my friend, my brother, I don’t give excuses at all. If you want to achieve, I am going to support you to achieve,” he added, making it clear that he would rather let his projects speak for him than indulge in empty rhetoric.

With the ongoing road construction projects and other infrastructural initiatives in the pipeline, Wike’s bold statement is seen as both a promise of accountability and a challenge to other public servants to follow suit.
